I'm not sure that I understand. Are you trying to set up repositories? If so, use the "Download..." button in the "Manage Repositories" dialog (make sure that you are connected to the internet first).

Or are you talking about the "links" in the Maemo Mapper Repositories thread? Because those aren't links you can actually browse to in a web browser. They are templates for actual links (the %d's and %s's are filled in by Maemo Mapper itself). The only reason they are set up as links in the post are so that you can copy/paste them easily. That's not really necessary anymore, though, so long as you use the "Download..." button in the "Manage Repositories" dialog (described above).

Does someone have a link for an instruction about how to enable text-to-voice for N800? Flick seems to be out of the picture? If not, where I can get one?

Btw, very very NICE program ! I really love it.

Annoying noob experiences:
When using Maemo Mapper – Route – Download you need to use country and city codes for small streets. For example: Verysmallstreet 21 won’t work, you need to ad both, Berlin, Germany too.

All driving directions come from google maps, so the requirement for that is being derived from google maps. Besides, it makes sense that you need to have state, country otherwise there is probably hundreds of "Verysmallstreet's" at least in the US, so how would google maps know which one to create driving directions for?

Yes indeed, I am not saying it is anybody’s fault just that you need to know it. It is hard to pinpoint why one gets errors as when used from browser Google maps will make necessary default guesses and also, a bit bigger streets (gategory: normal streets) are found automatically.

There might be a workaround for this, and--like the feature itself--the workaround is also dependent on Google Maps.

The GPX Driving Directions Web Service (which Maemo Mapper uses for routes) uses maps.google.com by default, but you can also change the "top-level domain" so that, for example, you can use maps.google.de if you want. If you can enter your small streets in maps.google.de and get directions fine, then here's the workardound to your problem:

At the top of the "Download Route" dialog box is a text field for a URL. If you add "&tld=de" to that URL, then Maemo Mapper will instruct the web service to use maps.google.de instead of maps.google.com. The result will be the same as if you tried to use the directions feature of maps.google.de. A side effect (for better or for worse) is that, since maps.google.de uses German as the language, all direction information will be in German.

That's also the workaround to get directions in your own language, by the way.

(Yeah, I know, I'm a bad person, I should document this somewhere. Well, this will have to do for now. )

Ouch!

I usually usa tld=it and get italian driving direction and I'm happy with that.

Hi,
Thanks for the replay.
First, I would like to mention that I read the thread of John Costigan on the
2007-02-08. I quote points 13-14 from his reply:
"13. You will see a black screen. From the menu, select "Maps", then select "Manage Repositories".
14. Enter a URL Format from this list:
http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=25463&postcount=2"
I tried to download and I got en error that URL doesn't exist.
The thread link is: https://garage.maemo.org/forum/message.php?msg_id=1139.
Second, I'm connected to the Internet (WiFi) and I have a Blue GPS module that is recognized by the Nokia 700.
Last, the maemo-mapper I installed is 1.3.5 with libsqlite0. I couldn't install the latest version neither libsqlite3.
Thanks again,
Itamar

Did you enter the URL in the "Manage Repositories" dialog and hit the "Ok" button?

There's an easier way, though: just use the "Download..." button on the "Manage Repositories" dialog. I recommend upgrading to v1.4.5 - why are you unable to install it?

Maemo Mapper v1.4.6 has been released. This release fixes a bug in the "Manage Repositories" dialog box, and it adds some new features contributed by Tatu Männistö.

It should show up in the repository soon. Until then, you can use the direct download links in the Maemo Mapper Garage Files page.

i did what u said, still, i have problem downloading,' url format'.
what should i add and where?
i'll try to install the new version 1.4.6. the problem on previous install was incompatible software version. that's why i installed the 1.3.5.
do u have 'how to' intruction of what should i install and how to setup the mapper?
This are the configuration steps I took after installing Mapper 1.3.5 )and libsqlite0):
1. on route>download...>source URL i set: http://www.gnuite.com/cgi-bin
2. on maps>manage repositories>URL format i set: http://mt.google.com/mt?n=404&v=w2.9...d&y=%d&zoom=%d
What's wrong, what should I add?
My firmware version is 3.2006.49-2.
I can't install mapper version 1.4.5/6 - why?
