Whether this app was meant as a joke or meant to be serious is not the issue.
What's important is how the end user perceives it. If he thinks it is a serious application to help secure his phone then Ovi need to explain that it is not.
This application is in the Ovi store so I assume Nokia have okayed it

That's what I'm talking about, you are right.

Ovi have to explain that this is a joke. But there'll be many negative comments explaining that soon...

I support your right to complain all you want. go for it OP.

I installed the app and i had set my phone down next to me to sharpen my machete. [clearing some brush] well a snake crawled over the phone scaring the beejezus out of me and i turned swinging wildly.[i don't like snakes]

Cut my phone in half!

good thing is now i can finally get the ifart app of my dreams [with phone]

@torpedo- yes, there can be better apps, but if your only real argument is the disabling shortcut then again ask yourself the question: how many thieves know of this, i think your criticism jumps the shark..

So, I have every right to downrank the Offscr Calculator app because it doesn't solve quadratic equations?

There should be a WARNING

This whole ovi/maemo app hate is getting annoying.

Lets gets some facts straight. Firstly the "end" user isnt that stupid that they will use this app for security. If a 12 year old boy who owns action man figures can afford a N900 and is confused by the real purpose behind this app - then yes its a failure.

Secondly, can people, and notiecably a lot of new users stop these childish rants and random attacks on ovi and how rubbish it is - yes we know its rubbish. Point? have you ever gone to the App Downloader? have you seen all the actually useful app's and programs available in extras?
Having owned this device for almost 6 months, I still find new and useful apps in the app manager every weak.

Fart apps aisde, forget ovi and use Extras. This repository is beyond useful and is neglected too often and labelled as a "developers test base". It is a lot more. Please show some love and understanding.

i found another serious problem with the application: it doesn't give you any kind of security whatsoever unless you start it and activate the alarm!!! that's ridiculous! users should be warned about this. they will rightfully assume that installing the application does protect the device from scratches and water and thieves.

That's not the same: quadratic equations are not necessary in a calculator app, while a not easily closable PIN panel is necessary in every (serious and advertised as serious) security app.

You can continue your joking, but I don't think many of you will seriously use that app knowing the security bug.

I would use it, if there were no bugs.

Edit: I'm not criticizing all the apps, please read more carefully my posts. I'm criticizing THIS app. Btw if I didn't find maemo.org apps usefull, I wouldn't be the first tester in Extras-Testing charts.

Well...the OP made a point to post the disabling shortcut in his review.......on the download page.....

I think that was a slap in offscreens face. I would have taken my concern to offscreen in private to be positive about helping rather than negative. But thats just me.

That reminds me of someone posting keygen security holes on an Official Anti-Virus download site.......
