How to pronounce "$" as in "dollar", no? "#" as in "hash"?
int 80h is indeed the linux kernel interrupt.

$ is a dollar. # is a hash (to me and most people, I have heard it called an octothorpe a lot and a pound by one person - this confused me as i'm English)

So in rootsh command interpreter I enter a "sudo gainroot command" to gain access to root.

gathering i just open X-term & write $ mplayer 9.avi.

I'm also gathering from you that $ is user command to carry certain command line actions or execute mplayer 9.avi?

But "#" is root user admin type privelege or you are admin with "#"

Now I've read http://wiki.maemo.org/Root_access in the safe knowledge I know what this means

lol that's funny, maybe they not really english or english foregin or foreign english dismiss what i just said. I think my N900 is going into rocket-mode via the swappolube settings I have been given!

Now I'm certainly a little enlightened. I'll read the rest of the wiki help pages

You'd do 'sudo gainroot' to login as root. Every command until you 'exit' or close that xterm will be executed as root.

The command mplayer can be executed by anyone as it's not doing anything that could fubar your system, so you don't need to be root.

The $ and the # are just visual aids to remind you what user you currently are. Please don't actually put them in at the command line.

- I guess you're expecting more. There is always some 'lag' to some extent.

(Swappiness - 30) x (Overclock using kernel-power) = zero lag

Open Terminal and type the following;

Code:

root
apt-get install kernel-power
kernel-config limits 250 850
kernel-config load ideal
kernel-config save profile overclocked1
kernel-config default profile overclocked1
exit
exit

Should remove one helluva lot of lag for you. Read up on Overclocking at the wiki as suggested by jedi.

Have you enabled some of the other repo's? I can't remember which ones need to be enabled sorry. It might be testing.

or after becoming root do

apt-get update

then try. Also please do it line by line, don't just copy and paste all of that into xterm :P

Having a problem. It won't create a new line without pressing enter key which then tries to execute what I have already typed in

e.g

First attempt couldn't find out how to get to a new line & pressed enter!

Nokia-N900:~# apt get kernel-power
E: Invalid operation kernel-power

Second attempt found out how to just use the right arrow key to move the cursor along & down to second line to put i input but then it gets so far along the line & won't allow me to move cursor any further

e.g.

Nokia-N900:~# apr get install kernel-power
kernel-config limits 250 850-----|

Nokia-N900:~#
