Not if you want a remote. The N900 simply doesn't support the volume controls on wired remotes (IIRC it uses the connector for the TV out instead). You can control the volume with bluetooth headsets though.

Im no headphones expert but i think you lot are being a little harsh on the nokia set. Ok the actual design is rubish... they look terrible and the remote is pretty basic but i think the sound quality is ok. I compared them to a set of sony, phillips and skullcandys (in ear) that i had at home and much prefered the nokia set. Seem to get a much clearer sound at high volumes and also more bass.

Compared to my old N95 set the quality of these are much better! I have not tried using them with my N95 remote control but plan to try it out when i get home. Im assuming it will work as my brother tried it with his Moto Dext and it worked fine! If a nokia remote control can work with a driod based motorola phone why not the N900?

I like the flat cable, though. Seems to be somewhat easier to unravel.

I was pleasantly surprised with the headphones, actually.

Admittedly I had low expectations as these things are generally terrible, but I didn't find the bass missing or the treble too offensive. They compare favourably with the cheap-ish Sony ones I have here (I don't spend much on them as I break them easily) and I hadn't noticed them being too tinny.

The sound isn't as good as my iRiver, for example, but if the Media Player gains an EQ at some point I think it'll be possible to iron out the gaps.

Thanks for that tip -- still one action too many for my taste, but given how easy it is to press the volume rocker, I can understand why.

My favourite in-ear style headphones are the JBLs I bought for my girlfriend. They sound amazing, and the cord is wrapped in cloth so it's both easy to unravel and super durable.

If I liked in-ears I'd have a pair for myself. I don't though -- I prefer the 'old-style' buds with the foamy covers because I actually like to be able to hear what's going on around me. Good ones seem to be hard to find anymore though, so I'm stuck with some old iPod buds... Anyone got any recommendations?

I was very annoyed having to unlock the device to change the volume. This tip made my day. Thank you!

For a while, I thought I was the only one complaining about these headsets...

Anyways, the best in-ear headset would be SHURE... I went to a Yamaha course and tried these SHURE headset... trust me they are worth it. SHURE will be among the highest ranks in the audio department!

the headsets that come with any device are usually pretty bad, IMHO.

If anyone is remotely interested in which ones I would recommend, though I doubt it, I'd go for SHURE if I had the money, but right now I have a pair of Denon's. Good sound quality, not too much emphasis on the base like you get with bose headphones. I hear the new sennheisers are really good as well but I've never tried them out.
