I think people should compare their phones to N900, not to Iphone. Obviously, Iphone is not the best phone anymore. I doubt it has ever been...

That is a specious argument. IPhone is sold Globally and when Apple touts its wordwide shipments - its worldwide - not US.

So why wont you compare Apple to Apples ? Nokia sells globally, Apple sells globally - so compare their global strengths - not individual market strengths.

By your argument if we were to compare iPhone shipments with Nokia in one of Nokia's leading markets - ASIA - the iPhone would be a joke.

Many people buy iPhone because of its integration with iTunes.
Most people plays only using iTunes or impornt some MP3, they don't even know there are other formats other than a physical CD.
Again it's not about advance in technology, it's about what the people know and use

Nokia's marketing in Asia is huge, unfortunately, when I was in Hong Kong, 3 times in these 2 years, I was asked by people a few times why I didn't UPGRADE to iPhone when I was using N95 or even N900 (N900 I can understand as it's not released in Asia)
So, go figure the perception of Nokia's phone and iPhone among public

Different gadgets for different needs I guess.

True and bit sad fact is that too many people like being like sheeps. They are lost if they are not given guidance and rules. Freedom of choice makes some people confused and lost and who likes to be lost? ME...I´m happily lost in ocean of choices with my N900 .

In a way Apple hits that sweet spot of people being lost and hits it good. Only thing that matters is how much you can make money out of something RIGHT NOW AND FAST. Good business is to "capture" credit card under one software and make it closed. And actually to provide quite nice user experience.

You should never ever overlook your competitors and for Nokia and also Apple there is things to learn from each other and competitors. Remember than Apple has always option to make their system open little by little.

mcdull, you're talking about mind-share, which is, admittedly important for all companies (though only evident in high-ends). Unfortunately, we're talking about market share (you're forgetting the low-mid end here) in the thread. Next, please.

And once while you got people saying they want running Android on N900?
In the US, the manufacturers don't market devices. This is instead controlled by carriers. Hopefully Nokia can negotiate an until recently unprecedented deal similar to Apple's, where they have control over marketing

Apple is the only smartphone featured in its own ads besides the Verizon Droid and TMo MyTouch. All others are really about the carrier's service. Don't think Apple's satisfaction rates will continue to grow. iFans are already showing dissent over slow development of features, Flash, etc...

Those wanting to run Android on an N900 are just doing it to show it can be done. If they really wanted an Android device, there's the near hardware identical Milestone/Droid...
