Good point. I will see what I can kick-off. Some of the learnings have already been published under the The Widget UI Guidelines and also in some of power management guidelines. But before you say it, yes I do understand that sample code is a great deal more useful.

It is not wrong to get feedback from folks on this list, but I do agree that if this was our only source of feedback, then the feedback we got would be awfully skewed to one end of the user spectrum.

Not just specific sample code, but real code that's free software. It's usually a lot simpler to take something that does part of what you need and modify it to suit you than it is to create something from scratch.

As someone who doesn't have a device yet, and won't till they're available commercially, I think your asking the 'geeks' first is entirely sensible, since you're doing it in in a public place where I can read and learn. (Forgive me, clever technical peoples for calling you 'geeks' but...)

An awful lot of what is said here goes clean over my teddy bear head. But I can actually work out when people are struggling with something. If 300 experts look at an app for download and find it problematic, it's pretty fair bet that I shall when the time arrives. If they all say it works smoothly, they I have hope that it will for me too.

Certainly what the tech-genii want may not be exactly what I want from a device. I shall have my turn as commenting eventually. And contrary to other's experience I've been made entirely welcome here despite my complete ignorance and tendency to ask for explanations in short words. I said there was an app I really, really want - and a bunch of developers polled for interest and are now working on it. (Hopefully it will eventually make it to the app store too!) I don't think you can ask for better than that.

So far the responses will be from the people with preview devices. Over time, opinions will be more varied. But if you want the full range of opinions, I don't think I'd ask in a specialist internet forum.

Fair enough, you call the N900 an internet tablet with added cellular connectivity... But since that is the case, I wont be connected via WIFI all the time but using the cellular network to transfer data. Now bear in mind that the facebook front page - and not only the facebook frontpage but several frontpages of other sites - with all scripts, ads and such is quite heavy and puts a HUGE STRESS on my 250MB chunk of free data per month. Unfortunately thats the biggest amount available from my provider and if I have to rely on the browser and it loading the full desktop experience for everything, those 250MB will be depleted in a weeks time, at most. And after that thats 10 cent per MB started. Ouch...

So speaking of getting the power consumption right, you should maybe, just maybe also think of getting the data consumption right. Having the full desktop like internet experience at hand is awesome, but I'd like to chose when to fire it up, please.

Although I guess I'm way to late with that request as the Firmware is most likely already finalised at exactly this moment and it would require quite some programming to spit out clients/apps for several mobile services/appliances which one has to rely on the browser for now. Altough you could also spend the browser a mobile option so it identifies itself as a mobile device, as the user whishes it to do so. Quickly done and would help the data consumption massively until those apps pop up, if they ever do...

Question for Facebook Widget.
This Widget adds the plugin for uploading photos to Facebook, my question is if this plug-in includes the option to Create a new Album and/or ability to select existing albums in which your photos will be uploaded.

If yes then thumbs up. If not please add this function immediately. Uploading photos in un-organized masses means nothing to me and makes the plugin practically worthless.

I can't comment on these apps because I still don't have my N900.
What would be nice to know, really, is whether these applications (and here I am thinking about skype and evernote) will continue to be maintained (bug fixes, new features). Or will they be like the original skype and rhapsody that shipped with the n800 that were never updated.
