Sorry, but that isn't correct.

The N900 is the first Maemo device which is also a phone but there were three previous generations of Maemo; N770, N800, N810.

I meant a phone. Sorry for that. Of course I knew about the tablets.

I thought in the context of "smartphones" my meaning was clear, though. I have now added a clarification there.

If necessary I'm sure I can easily sell it here and I bought it at a good price.
What decision are you going to make? You already purchased the item and it is on its way to you. The decision to purchase the N900 should have been made long time ago to save yourself time and troubles.

Actually I only decided to buy it two weeks ago but I'm going to try it for at least a couple of weeks.

I had a Motorola Milestone on order ex the UK and cancelled that in favour of the N900.

I think the key is the N900 has great potential but it is not yet realized.

For a Linux hacker, it is clearly the best cell phone on the market. For the rest of us, it's not as clear a choice. I've decided to wait for the first Nokia software update to see if it resolves some of the problems and some of the lack of features that other threads mention.

For yourself, since you already have the phone on is way, my advice would be to try it if you can still return it after its been used. If that's not an option, it's a more difficult decision. If someone forced me to decide, today, on a phone that I would have to use as my only means of mobile communication, I would be hard pressed to recommend the N900.

I just noticed this on another thread. According to a Nokia spokesman "We remain firmly committed to Symbian as our smartphone platform of choice." The article says there will only be one new Maemo phone in 2010 (versus a stream of Symbian models). This reinforces my belief that if your primary concern is for the phone capabilities, the N900 may not be for you.

I can't return it; I'd have to sell it as used on eBay if I open the box.
Really in a quandary.

It's not a perfect phone, but a perfect mobile computer.
It's WAYYYYYYY "better" than the N97 (shudder!)
In the worst case, you will surely find a happy buyer in Australia.

No more vacillating I'm definitely going to try it for a couple of weeks.
As a matter of interest why do you say "It's WAYYYYYYY "better" than the N97 (shudder!)"?

I've owned an N97 and I sold it just to get this one because of its web features and future potentials for more promising apps. And of course its Linux based ^_^
