I'm not sure, I certainly do not think Nokia have lied in any way, but likewise I do not think they have exactly been honest either. Its more a case of conveniently failed to mention its weak spots.
Every company do that.
Have Apple ever emphasized on that their iPhone and iPhone 3G can't do MMS, can't do video recording, can't do multitasking and etc? Not until you asked them, they wouldn't tell you what it couldn't do.

When I tried the Sony Ericsson K850i, their flagship camera phone at that time, I found out it only did 320x240 video recoring while my older N93i could do 640x480, should I say Sony Ericsson failed to tell people its weak spots?

Oh look, its a phone! Now stop saying it's an internet tablet with phone functionality. It is a phone, its marketed as a phone, the manufacturer's website calls it a phone.

Now that we know its a phone, we may now complain about its lack of basic phone features.
Typical example that the greedy marketing people who just want to sell more now have gained more power over the development team.

Are you saying Nokia has purposely left out the ability to use *100# type commands so you have to instead use data bandwidth meaning the networks potentially make more revenue? I disagree, I think Nokia just aren't allocating enough resources to the N900's development.

I really hope Nokia improve the phone features and the call log, however I am sceptical ther will be much added in terms of new features in future firmware for maemo 5.

This phone is also lacking these features can I complain to its manufacturer please, as I never read the instructions???

This device above has all the features you can assume a mobile has when its called a phone. Everything else is extra unless stated so in the literature.

I don't believe the manufacturer claimed this would be an internet tablet, did he? So if you pick it up and it won't work as an internet tablet (especially when you pay a premium for it), you won't complain?

Nope they didnt, its a phone. It does what it said on the box, phones people.

The n900 is good as its got lots of other features too!!... If I were looking for some specific features of the device I would have left my house and went to a store and tested it before purchasing it, especially with it being a new OS and brand new device.

This is 2010 not all phones are the same and the Nseries does not really mean a set of functions leaning towards the phone side. The E series does that slice of the market.

If Nokia would start selling their phones in the US on a more common platform, yes that would work. But only having a flagship store in NY and Chicago
They used to have at least a mini shop in a mall in LA, but closed it. There is no place in a 500 miles radius where somebody could check out any Nokia phone (except the ones sold by providers).
Come on. I am a big Nokia fan as well, but having a premium device that can't handle simple features which Nokia had on their phones for over 10 years is really not to be excused.
If Nokia finally wants to get a big chunk of the market back that they lost to Apple, they have to at least live up to their own expectation.

Uh, what about going to WalMart, or any other indipendant telephone sales outlet? There every 3rd shop in the UK.. There must be a shop outside nokia flag ship stores that have them?

"having a premium device that can't handle simple features which Nokia had on their phones for over 10 years is really not to be excused."

The point i am trying to make is its a phone and a new OS you cant just expect it to have the same features as other n series devices and more on top, its not a constant progression like n95 to n96 its a whole new system.

I bought my phone blind never heard of it never saw it, just thought that looks nice and its upgrade time... luckily I love it, if not I would learn to.

This way im never disappointed.

UK you must be lucky. Nokia's presence in the US is more than bad. Funny as it, the largest concert hall in LA is the Nokia Theater. No store carries non-sub'ed Nokias. There are a couple fishy warehouse stores where you can buy a closed box from china, but can't see the phone.
I am not expecting to be the same as a N-series, but maybe as much as a 3210 . And if it is so different, why give it the N logo???
You are getting me wrong. I love it as well. But unfortunately I can't use it during the week for work. It's my weekend toy. My wife always said that I have pretty expensive toys.

What do you mean "non-sub'ed Nokias"? surely if they have one and pretend you want to buy it they will let you try it out in store. Also if bought online distance selling law allows you to return it within 30 days.

TBH this phone is for me, I dont use it for business, I get one from the company. I used to use my iPhone for business when I was self employed and advised everyone I met never to get one if its for work purposes. The same for this, mainly due to the terrible battery life.
