they make really good products and we buy the products.

that's like me buying a x6 bmw then thanking bmw for added extras
that they previously promised.

ill thank nokia when they do something good to the phone that is outside
of their service level agreement. (or any other agreement)

who you should be thanking is the community who will be writing free
apps for this baby, thank the guys who sit behind their monitor testing
and hacking this baby making sure its working ok

i bought my phone from nokia and they didnt say thanks i guess i can understand that since we both got something for something.

Sheesh, no kidding. It's Nokia that doesn't provide MMS, but frals comes through. Nokia should be thanking HIM (or paying him). Even Patty Hearst didn't have Stockholm Syndrome as bad as the rest of these guys.

You don't get it. these Linux boys are ridiculous, and with the hardware Nokia has given us there really isn't much this phone can't do. I knew before I bought the phone that it didn't have MMS, but I was pretty sure that the community would deliver- and they did. Within reason almost anything that'll work on Linux will work on this, so as long as enough people want something rest assured it'll happen.

Very satisfied customer.

You need to overwrite the actual system icons with your own. To do that you need to use OpenSSH to access you phones files.

Follow this guide to use OpenSSH to access your files:

http://www.nokian900applications.com...on-nokia-n900/

You then replace any icon you want with one of your choosing of the same size. Loads of icons/mods are available for download/to see on the Mods thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...896#post675896

Here are the Cell Level Bar icons I used:

http://meego.de/menueuser/downloads/...erby,2/page,1/

To use them overwrite the files of the same name in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/hildon, reboot and job done!

Once you've enabled access via OpneSSH you can literally change almost anything (^_^)

Exactly!

The hardware is nice, but like any computer, the OS is what really matters. Nokia gave us both. The best support Nokia could provide is FREEDOM and they've pretty much done that too.

I'll never forget when I realized I had to have a N900. I was sick of the Android phone I was using, surfing around to see what else was in the works. Found out about the N900 and got to the maemo.org home page where there was an article kinda announcing Maemo 5/N900. It had a screenshot of a terminal with a '#' prompt and said something like "You can do what you want. We trust you with your device."

I was stunned. I mean, jaw-dropping, got-goosebumps stunned. I couldn't believe a huge commercial enterprise like Nokia would not only actually put a full-stack linux distro in my pocket but then happily allow root access to it! Well, I knew what that meant, in a big-picture kinda way - but I also knew most ordinary users who bought a N900 would have no clue, none. Sadly, all the whiners have proven me right. Wish I'd been wrong.

Anyway, I'm no fanboi for any company, I'll buy whatever is best for me. But I gotta admit that since that shocking moment I've had a bit of a soft spot for Nokia.

Very satisfied customer.
Same here!
