Because maemo is the only OS currently guaranteed to run flawlessly and effortlessly on N900.

As I said, future 'upgradeability' (in this case, to MeeGo) is still questionable in terms of its ease of installation/migration, (official) support and whether 100% of the (hardware and commonly expected) functionalities will be present on it.

Yeah - but the poll question was staged in such a fashion that the new OS would have feature parity. In that blue sky scenario, most people would switch.

Sure, but the mods beat me to it.

If someone bought the N900 hoping that Maemo would evolve, excited by the potential, and now sees that Android is getting better while Maemo isn't evolving as they'd hoped... then it makes sense.

Here's the poll option I would prefer:

- The community puts together a hybrid containing the best features of all 3, and able to run apps from all 3 side by side.

Also, the Meego poll option should be two:

- Meego in "closed kernel but can run commercial apps" mode.

- Meego in "open kernel but can't run commercial apps" mode.

I'm getting a 32gb card soon and so wouldn't "switch" to anything. I plan to try Android (Nitdroid) just for fun. I am starting to dislike Nokia more as time passes, so I won't try MeeGo for awhile.

I've been thinking that a cell phone should just be a cell phone, so my next far-out device will probably be a larger tablet -- but not an iPad. I will probably buy the Shasta Kindle, whatever that is, whenever it comes out.

But my ultimate goal -- something bigger than the n900, something not associated with Nokia, and something with some kind of Linux on it.

I refused to vote because I can't get multiple options.

But I looked at the capabilities of Maemo and of Android and came into this with my eyes wide open. I'm not a developer. I haven't tinkered with the Linux X-Term since like 1998, and I had an iPod Touch and family members with Android devices, but still went with N900.

I like what Maemo does. I love it. But I look forward to triple-booting. I'd boot iOS and webOS, too if they were available.

By the way, if the guys who port Android put their effort into MeeGo instead, it would be much better!

i'd run all OSs in my N900, Android, Maemo, and MeeGo. Why? Because i want them all. And it is good for learning to use all of 3 OS in one go, make you familiar with the OS. Also I can shut the hell up the FAN boy! lol when he said look my Android device is better or my meeGo is better. I would say ftw? look at my N900! I can run those OS which is a better device!

NITDroid because I consider Nokia's stance to be the same as Google's on privacy, with PR 1.2 anyway. On the upside, at least I'd know that the applications coming with NITDroid would be open. (Mind, I could probably say the same about MeeGo reference)

On the other hand, Maemo 5 has GTK which'd want to make me keep Maemo - just for that, even - but its libraries are already aging and it's way too closed source for my liking.
