I captured a successful trial request. 23 packets total and a small handful were broadcast packets from my LAN. What to do with it?

Okay I used tcpdump and captured the packets:

Attached and also
http://www.box.net/shared/iu73b0lydc (tcpdumpbin is readable by Wireshark)
http://www.box.net/shared/v58ler6ik8 (tcpdumphuman is "human readable" and not readable by Wireshark)

# tcpdump -vvv -w tcpdumpbin
# tcpdump -l -vvv | tee tcpdumphuman

(BTW I pinged google 5 times first to make sure it was capturing)

this is for USA-West if that matters.

------------
Also if you have problems with wayfinder not recognizing the map files on your external card (with the error "Multiple mapdata found. Using internal memory card") then go ahead and download Singapore (1 megabyte) then (assuming mmc2 is internal FAT partition and assuming mmc1 is external ext3 partition)
# scp -r user@desktop:/home/user/mapdata_USA-West root@nokia:/root/
# cp -R /media/mmc2/map/* /media/mmc1/map/
# rm -R /media/mmc1/map
# cp -R /root/mapdata_USA-West /media/mmc1/map/

This is the relevant part of the data from the capture:

Data sent:
POST /ota/httpif HTTP/1.1
Hos!NC#0211aaCuybayqeiGkE30/xZokM

Data received:
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Content-Trans!NC#0111aaC2SCk23840l184bsq+60

No surprise that the contents are encrypted, but I though the communication were going to be much more complicated, looks like the message is small.

I would say that the next step is to detect the changes made in the storage of the device after activating. This would give us a key or something that might be directly related with the received data.

I have another N810 with a fresh install, I could image it and then activate (+tcpdump) and then image again for a diff but I'm not sure that'll be enough, with it being encrypted and all.

Perhaps if several people do this (at least tcpdump) along with date stamps and mac addresses then we might be able to crack the encryption. But I don't see this happening, people seem to be too paranoid about being tracked by their mac addresses.

Has anyone wrote to wayfinder and politely asked them to release a version w/o activation seeing as how they aren't selling licenses anymore?

A permanent fix would be nice. I don't have a data plan on my cellphone so maemo-mapper is too limiting.

If you could do both images of the storage, before and after the activation and publish the relevant differences that would be great.

About the MAC address there is no reason to be worried, people can just fake it and publish the fake MAC used for the activation.

I see the similarities in both captures posted but this second one is much larger.
