If it's not offline-available vector based mapping, it's not worth it on the tablets. It would STILL be better even on the unfortunately always-connected N900 cellphone.

I wasn't referring to online maps. Opensteetmaps provide downloadable extracts from their map database. The advantage of that would be an updated/updatable map source.
One of the main gripes about Wayfinder was the lack of map updates.

The current released code seems to be the client/server online mapping solution which was available in various phone platforms

I thought OpenStreetMaps wasn't vector based.

I have just registered on the wayfinder OSS forum and asked if the Maemo code will be open sourced as well, or if it already has been. It may be useful if anyone else interested also chimes in over there.http://wayfinder.freeforums.org/index.php

Thanks a LOT! That's an excellent move! Although, you may want to post the direct URL to the thread:

It is. I'm not even aware of any other format one can use to store maps. AFAIK there are "tiles" which only are good for showing a person a map, and vector formats, which can be used for routing (or rendering tiles).

Bad news Guys. I have just checked and seen this reply by stefan from Wayfinder

Hi,

I'm very happy to hear your kind words about the Maemo versions. Unfortunately there are no plans to release the code base for the Maemo version of Wayfinder (former Navicore).

Br Stefan
