If it's not offline-available vector based mapping, it's not worth it on the tablets. It would STILL be better even on the unfortunately always-connected N900 cellphone.

I wasn't referring to online maps. Opensteetmaps provide downloadable extracts from their map database. The advantage of that would be an updated/updatable map source.
One of the main gripes about Wayfinder was the lack of map updates.
The current released code seems to be the client/server online mapping solution which was available in various phone platforms

I have just registered on the wayfinder OSS forum and asked if the Maemo code will be open sourced as well, or if it already has been. It may be useful if anyone else interested also chimes in over there.http://wayfinder.freeforums.org/index.php
