I went from N900 to an iPhone4. Best choice in a long time. Why?

1. More buzz and activity. Things are actually happening
2. Things that are in the device (stock) actually work most of the time. Can't say the same about *my* experience with the N900
3. User interface snappier
4. Build quality sturdier

Absolutely loved the N900 at the time. Or actually, I was in love with the idea about what I thought it would be. I thought it would have much support from Nokia and a decent amount of stable apps. When the i4 came out, the temptation was just too big, so I went back to being an Apple fanboy and frankly, I don't regret it. Best phone I ever had.

Still have a place in my heart for the N900, which is why I check back regularly to see if something is happening.

Q: what do you guys have against apple?
A: Nothing really..I just always preferred oranges.

Besides I will add another reason why not to choose iPhone:

Happy iSheep: Yay I got the new iPhone!!!
Me: Oh cool! My mother got one too..and your father..and my father..and my brother..and your sister..and my sister...and my girlfriend..and my grandpa..and your grandma..

Am I the only one that likes it that the N900 is not very popular?

You are one of the few that can actually think for yourself.

(unfortunately we are in the minority!)

i wanna know why are you bashing on apple.

if it wasnt for apple, people wouldnt have a sweet music store(itunes)

if it wasnt for apple, people were forced to use windows.

if it wasnt for apple, there would be no touch screen phone till 2011.

if it wasnt for apple, there would be no angrybirds.

can someone reply to me in this thread on why do you hate apple/iphone?

Actually I don't think many people are "against" Apple per se.

However, we are against ignorant posts like yours.

It's typical really. Someone buys an Apple product and seems to think they have an informed opinion about the IT industry just because they "own" an iPhone, Mac, iDildo or IWhatever.

Also, I must admit that I like very much the Ipad, especially for its form factor and battery duration. I don't just like just as much its OS. One could run as well a mainstream gnu-linux distro on that hardware and be happy. It's not going to happen, though, most likely.

OK, I'll take a different line on this - here's what I DO like about Apple (in relation to N900 and mobile phones/devices in general):

  1. Apple have raised awareness and perception of smartphones in general; that has to be good for everyone.

  2. Apple have produced a nice, safe ecosystem around iPhone; Open Source has it's attractions to some, but it will not appeal to The Many until it can match the 'Walled Garden' for security, comfort and ease-of-use.

  3. Apple have raised the standard for app development, choice and quality. App Store may be full of all kinds of fart and twitter apps, but at least they are of quality and largely bug-free.

  4. Apple have forced other Manufacturers to dig deep and introduce new, innovative models to 'keep up' with Apple, who are perceived to be the market leaders.

  5. Apple and iPhone are now commonplace. That will drive buyers to seek out more distinctive alternatives and drive the market accordingly.

  6. Apple have shown themselves to be fallable (recent antenna issue) which will lead buyers to less critical of other mfrs.

  7. Steve Jobs is old! Younger buyers will associate him with iPhone and seek out more youthful alternatives and drive diversity in the market.

So I don't hate Apple. I might even try owning one some day. But for now, nothing comes close to the experience of N900 for me. Maemo may have its flaws and may soon be discontinued, but it is still a fine OS and will remain so.

N900 is a fine device and can do the things I need far better than iPhone4. I'm just grateful that Apple's presence and power in the market will make N900's successor an even better device.

I own an N900 and an iPhone. N900 is used as my main phone/mobile computer. I only use the iPhone like an iPod touch for apps and some games because the phone audio quality sucks compared to the N900. I only bought an iPhone because Nokia took forever to slap a phone stack on the N800 but now that I have this option, I won't buy another iPhone.

I can understand when someone buys an Apple product and experiences that kind of technology for the first time - everything else becomes Apple-orientated for the new user's perspective.

I'm surprised by your OP considering you do not own any Apple products.

I must apologise for my previous comments and take back what I said.

I feel sorry for you.

Often it's not bashing. It is reputing false claims.

2. if it wasnt for apple, people wouldnt have a sweet music store(itunes)

Apples are sweet, sometimes, but their music store sure is not. Is iTunes not the program that forces me to fiddle with XML files in order to allow me to use more than one computer to connect to my Apple device without wiping the whole thing clean?

3. if it wasnt for apple, people were forced to use windows.

People are not forced, people choose. And there is more choice than just Windows. Your beloved Apple, for instance, runs a Unix spin.

4. if it wasnt for apple, there would be no touch screen phone till 2011.

Than we wait. Simple as that.

5. if it wasnt for apple, there would be no angrybirds.

Mwah. Come back with this claim if I can play Pro Evolution Soccer on an Apple mobile device, ok?

6. can someone reply to me in this thread on why do you hate apple/iphone?

I don't. It's because I tend to think different and hate is just more of the same...
