Search the forums, it's perfectly possible to use the nokia map loader app, even on win 7 64 bit. I know this because I did it.

It does require some messing around with a USB thumb drive or hard drive and copying data back and forth, but it can be done and didn't even take all that long.

Went to this link(also given in the post)
http://handphone-solution.blogspot.c...0-without.html

1. Downloaded a map of New York from the link on the page.
2. Unzipped the map file, which contained these folders.

3. Connected the n900 in mass storage mode.
4. Opened the folder Cities\diskcache, which contained folders like these

5. Copy pasted the downloaded files(the unzipped NY map files to the above folder on the n900)
6. Windows popped up a message saying these folders exist, etc etc. Just selected replace with the new items I'm copying.
7. Disconnected the phone, opened up Ovi Maps and the maps were there.

Disclaimer: I have no clue if this is the correct way to do it. But it worked for me

BTW the website has better instructions than I gave here.

Edit: I'm running Vista 64, so had to use this method because the map loader didn't work with either the PC suite mode or the mass storage mode.
Just had a quick question. These maps downloaded from the page mentioned, are they the same up-to-date maps we would get when using maploader? I don't want to be using older outdated maps.

If directly unzipping into

/home/user/MyDocs/cities

I just don't see how overwriting the existing files is a good thing. Especially when unzipping multiple locations, overwriting must erase the previous maps????

So what does one do? I only have Linux so can't use the loader.

I got maps for the whole of the uk loaded manually, deleted the contents of the cities folder before copy and it worked. This was months ago so I have no idea where I got the files from, but no problems yet =)

Okay I can see that working but what if you want multple locations. The guy above seems to indicate it worked for him by overwriting but just can't be possible. I guess I will stick to just one map (UK) for now until someone can give clues on how to manually unzip multiple maps.

Does this copying method works with PR1.2? Also, where can I get these maps? Specifically for the US, Hong Kong, and Japan(if they have).

Worked on PR1.2 for me. Here is the link I used to grab maps:

Still haven't tried installing multiple maps manually. It seems only 2 or 3 files are common and maybe they are the same; haven't had time to confirm.

Is this the map loader within Ovi Suite?

If so, how does one enable compatibility mode as when I tried it this morning I was told that my N900 may not support maps or they may be corrupted. i.e. we don't like your phone.
