This practically makes this a desktop phone, and not a mobile!

I was such a Nokia-fan for years, and as much as I love what the N900 can do - it drives me nuts to see how Nokia is not taking its customers seriously!
You either have some hardware issue or there is something running in the background chewing up your battery's charge.

This fits in with my findings actally, although it is a little extreme.

I find that if I top up my N900 every night I can get well over a days use, or 3 days with light use.

If I let the battery run all the way down to the red warning (approx 1% left) then the next full charge gives me about 6 hours use - I have tried this several times over the last few weeks and it is reproducible for me.

This makes me think there is an issue with the recharge algorithm used or potential a hardware issue. Hopefully the former which can be fixed.

Could other people please try this and see if it is a general issue and not just my phone...

I would be leaning towards some kind of software/batter problem as the phone itself is not inherently bad on battery life (all things considered).

I and many people on this forum use the phone moderately with internet use both wifi and 3G on and off throughout the day and have numerous desktop widgets and shortcuts running. Including some of the above mentioned widgets known to cause problems. (apart from the facebook widget which really does suck!) It doesn't matter how or when I choose to recharge the phone I will always get more than 24 hours, sometimes 48. I have low brightness and select 2G when I don't use the 3G for internet.

There was one day when I used 3G internet for 3 hours while monitoring the F1 practice and qualifying and then it did need a charge that evening but other than that is just works.

So if your phone doesn't it has problems other than "nokia's values" or some other crap.

Either take it back, take it to a Nokia service point and get them to re flash it OR re flash it yourself and start again from the beginning. If you suspect that somehow your battery is buggered then get a new one, especially if it is more than 6 months old as that could be the problem. I know this may not be a popular post but every time I log on I read the same posts saying blah blah the phone is **** etc etc and it isn't

In my case, reflashing made a big chance in battery life.

Phone was updated to pr 1.2 "over the air", and charge dropped about 10 %-points every six hours when idling. After reflash that figure was only about 2,5 percentage points!

I'm having the same weird battery life issues post-PR1.2. I have to plug in my phone every few hours to keep it charged. This is as bad as the pre-release days! PR 1.0 was so much better on battery than pre-release firmware, and PR 1.1 was even a little better than that, and now PR 1.2 took it all away for me.

I've had a wide gamut of battery life duration. Seems heavily variant depending on hardware, age of SIM cards, apps installed, etc..

Shame I'm too unpatient to take a scientific way to see what results in the longest battery life.

qole: Have you tried to reflash allready?

Few hours battery life seems cracy, it means that phone is taking 0.3-0.4 amps all the time. Have you checked what kind of load CPU is taking?

Do you have Categorize or something like that installed? There is a bug in hildon-desktop cpu usage when the menu structure is non-flat!

so i hoped that it would last till i get back home and amazingly it did....
i came back home went for a small bathroom break and then i set it on charge and iit was On...Didn't turned off....

But i must Must say it is farmuch better that the original one....

Well regarding the heating issue No i havend had any heating up issue...
thou in my country it is very hot now a days
the temp now a days is 44 degrees celcius....

Ever since i activated smart reflex by

echo 1 > /sys/power/sr_vdd1_autocomp
echo 1 > /sys/power/sr_vdd2_autocomp

I have noticed a dramatic battery improvement! I can last the day with 10+hours of moderate usage.

But i have to enable smartreflex every now and then because it automatically resets itself to normal. I dunno how to enable it permantly.
