Dear Orava,

Great work getting us the maps from paikkatietoikkuna!

Personally I'd rather have them within mappero. It is after all, quite a mature piece of software and has plenty of other maps in it; most notably open street map.

So, dear Orava, would you be willing to share the secrets of how you tease the maps out of paikkatietoikkuna

And perhaps tell a bit about the license:
E.g. http://www.maanmittauslaitos.fi/node/3960 Says that I have to pay at least 244 euros to get the maps via WMS.

As far as I know Mappero can only use map tiles that are in Slippy Map tile format, in which Paikkatietoikkuna's map tiles are not in. So there's no easy way to use Paikkatietoikkuna as a map source for Mappero. But you can try http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...2&postcount=48 or http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=890055&postcount=6 to get topo maps to Mappero.

Mapsi uses same WMS servers that Paikkatietoikkuna's web site uses and as Mapsi is a free non-commercial application I don't think it need any licenses.

Where does it say that non-com apps can use it for free ?

Yes, I got N950 from meego.com N950 device program and already got Mapsi running pretty stable on it. I'll probably release Harmattan version in a few weeks.

Free or commercial, it does not matter. All kind of direct and/or external usage of Paikkatietoikkuna's WMS servers seems to be prohibited:
"Käyttäjällä tai muulla osapuolella on oikeus sijoittaa omille verkkosivuilleen linkki Paikkatietoikkunaan tai sen alasivuun. Linkin yhteydessä pitää näkyä Paikkatietoikkuna -nimi. Linkin kautta Paikkatietoikkunan tulee aueta selaimen tyhjään ikkunaan ilman kehyksiä. Muunlainen linkittäminen ja sisällön irrottaminen on näiden käyttöehtojen puitteissa kielletty."

Full license is described here:

I'd say that makes perfect sense. It doesn't matter if the application is free - it still consumes resources from the service and should be somehow controlled by the service owner (Paikkatietoikkuna).

Even free services and APIs (e.g. some Google APIs) require registration to use the API. Why? To keep some control on who uses the service and terminate the service for that user if it's used against the rules.

Orava I'd suggest you to check with Paikkatietoikkuna about the license before continuing further.

I think I can add WMS server setting to to the next version, so user itself must enter Paikkatietoikkuna's WMS servers URLs.

Great app for finish hunters - Kudos to Orava

Aerial maps is great new feature - I wish to get layout showing roads and trails on top of aerial maps - some day. (I don't know whetter this information is available in suitable format: Paikkatietoikkuna.fi -> Liikenneverkot -> Digiroad, Liikenneverkko)

Question related landmarks: How can I remove one (selected) landmark? My proposal is that tapping landmark would open menu telling distance to landmark and possibility to navigate or remove it.

Bug related adding name or description for landmarks is very annoying. Addition of those informations I would like to have some kind of categories for landmarks and possibility hide categories temporarily.
