I don't think ethics are a concern for the ones using this.

Look for the navigation kit it on ebay. I got mine for $50 not bad for a license and holder for the tablet windshield mount.

10 years, world coverage and a legally binding promise of pro-rated refunds if any map becomes outdated by say 2 years and I'm a game for $130. Where do I sign up?

Lots of people are talking about changing their MAC address using ifconfig. However, I haven't been able to find that software for the N810 OS2008 tablet. I found some source code but not an executable.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Theodoros

What's the difference, software-wise, between the Wayfinder 3 year subscrition mapping software and the (seemingly very expensive) mapping in the Nokia Navigation package please?

first, install macchanger
http://maemo-hackers.org/apt/pool/ma....0-1_armel.deb
(you have to do it as root, using console)

then, as root, edit /etc/init.d/rcS:

#vi /etc/init.d/rcS

and add the code

ifconfig wlan0 down hw ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
ifconfig wlan0 up

just before the last line:

exit 0

now, every time you want to renew you license, do this:

1. open console
2. $ rm -Rf /home/user/.navicore
3. Go to Offline mode
4. sudo gainroot
5. # macchanger -r wlan0
6. #vi /etc/init.d/rcS and replace the xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx with the mac address you got on step 5.
7. go Online mode
8. reboot
9. open Wayfinder and ask for new 7 day license.

wifi works & you can reboot w/o losing the new trial

I tried just_to_helps method to MAC change and now my N810 won't even boot.
The Nokia text with white background only stays on when booting. Reason for that might be that MAC-code script is not working in rcS-file or something.
Hopefully I get my device work with reflashing. Will it work to replace the rcS-file to working one or what I suppose to do?

EDIT: I reflashed the software and now it's booting.

There now seems to be 1 month and 12 month subscription options as well:

10 Euros for 1 month is a very convenient option for me. I only have a need for navigation features occasionally, e.g., holiday trips.

My reason for not buying is that the maps are too old. 3 years subscription for what?? After 3 years pay again for the same maps?
No way.
