Hmm, interesting thread, and some very good, valid and well argued points.

You will always get the "google it for me NOW" brigade, but most of them will quickly move on. I think that the current fuss etc regarding the N900 is a temporary blip, and will die off over the coming few months, as the capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses of the N900 become widely known, and people understand what it is about. The people who don't get it will moe on and go and by another iphone or whatever the latest googlephone is.

The main thing is as a community is that these people have to be heard, helped, tolerated, and educated, rather than isolated, sidelined or berated. For me the community has always been a joy to participate in (mostly passively, granted) as there has always been a great community spirit, and people are knowledgeable, polite, tolerant, helpful.

I've got an 810, 800, and a 770, and have picked up each one as they have gone cheap in an end-of-life sale when the next generation tablet has arrived. If the community had fragmented each time I would not be here now rambling on. I don't have an N900, and the likelihood of getting one before the end of the summer is at best slim, but I still enjoy reading some of the threads and dreaming.

This community will and needs to evolve, but needs to stay together, and focussed on being The community site for maemo, and NITs, which it has been for the last 2 1/2 years I have been here.

@Haus,

Be honest... you're running for a political position aren't you?

You appear to have me seriously confused with someone else.

Hahaha no, I just like typing you know BS, I just have my concerns where this whole ship is sailing. This is the first forum I really care about (mh may be because it's the only place to help me fix a device I just paid 430pounds for ), and seeing that there's like-minded people makes me want to get involved. I am not ready to give up if there is trouble, and at the moment all we are doing is damage assessment. The trouble might come later - better to be ready for it

Again my points are grossly miscontrued.

Am I not typing in English?

Owning a car is one thing, signing up to the owner/enthusiast club is another. For most people it indicates an active interest in the subject, and a willingness to participate, even if it's only "yea that happens to me too". that can be helpful too.

If people help you, then it's good manners, to be as helpful back. I ain't a developer or a coder (poor vbscript isn't much use around here), but I try to contribute where it is positive, even if it is just saying thanks.
