Yes I am still very much in favour of a Volume Slider for the interface, it comes in VERY handy and I use it very often. Let me explain why:
The volume buttons on the side of the phone are only Volume-Rockers, which means you have to continuously press them until you'll hear a noticeable difference in volume.
If you quickly need to lower volume for a few seconds (e.g. to answer someone asking you a quick question, being able to hear where the emergency vehicles are coming from when in your car, listening to an announcement when on bus/train/plane), a dedicated built-in volume slider is your friend. With two touches you are able to put the volume to a lower level, a final one will put it up again. Simple.

Been having problems running this myself.
Downloaded from Ovi Store, but when I run it it works fine up to the point where I tap on a track, then it shuts down. But at present it's shutting down as I start it.
I've been in contact with Peter via email, but I think I'll switch to using this forum in future. Maybe get a few more ideas.
First off, what is the latest version, and is that the one that's on OVi Store?

Thanks for creating what looks like a very promising music player for Maemo. I really like the clean UI, and when this application is completed, I can see that it will more than likely be my default music player. I have just over 3,600 songs (400 albums) at quite high bit rates on the main memory of my N900, with album art compiled mainly using MussOrgsky. I don't have a recent enough Mac to use the Insinctiv main application from your website, and have been using a WinXP netbook to administer the songs on my N900 via simple file transfer.
I've downloaded and installed the .deb file linked to in your post #59 and 'About' reports that I'm running v 0.3.14. EDIT: Downloading version from Ovi Store after reading (properly) post #59!!! EDIT:EDIT I'm switching back to the later version linked to in post #59 because it includes album art in listings
I've had it running for a couple of hours. As previously stated, I had already linked artwork to all of my music using MussOrgsky, but Instinctiv seems to be taking some time to either find it's own artwork, or index it in some way. I'm finding scrolling through the Albums list extremely laggy. Scrolling Artists or Songs seems much smoother. I'm pretty sure that Instinctiv has had enough time to work out all the album art now, but it is still really slow and the images gradually populate the album list piece-meal even after a re-boot.
As per previous posts, a voting system for features/improvements is a very good plan. It is also worth considering the option to vote both for and against the options. This will give a clearer picture of the demand for specific features. Some people here I note are either for or against an on-screen volume slider. I'm for it, because I am keen on multiple input methods, but I respect the opinions of those who are against.
The things I'd like to see are:
+1 for more sub-menu choices i.e. Most Played, Recently added, etc.
+1 for playlists
+1 for landscape mode
+1 for a widget ( I use the widget when driving on my 'in car' desktop )
+1 for 'cover flow' style album browsing
If I pick an album, I'd also like a 'More albums from this Artsist' choice.
If I pick an Artist, instead of a complete list of songs by that Artist, I'd like to first see the album choices before listing the songs.
If I pick a song from songs, I'd like to see a 'More songs from this Artist' choice in addition to the song picked.
When listing all the songs in an album, I'm not sure if it's worth showing the same album art next to each track listing over and over, it looks kinda' clumsy because you really only need one image.
Alphabetic listing places non-alpha numeric chars at top of list i.e. "( I can't get no) Satisfaction" is near the top of the list when it ought to be in the I's for India.
I strongly agree with a faster input method for alphabetic searching. I actively use the keyboard to search Songs, Artists, etc. with the built-in media player in landscape mode and would miss this feature if it doesn't reach your player.
Interesting thing I just did then. I was playing a song in single track mode from 'Songs' and then instinctively 'swiped' right to see what the next song was. Obviously, nothing happened, but does this point to another possible UI feature? On checking my (cough) Touch, I find that a right swipe returns me to the list of songs and a left swipe does nothing. A swipe of a song's album art while playing could reveal more info, lyrics, more albums, tracks, whatever, but it's worth exploiting for some feature or other.
