hey,

i just had an idea, that would it be possible to set the phone to an automatic silenced-profile, when the phone is facing down on your nightstand?

cause the phone notices, when it's facing down when you use the silence-action then recieving a call..

so could it be possible to do this kinda daemon, cause it would be great to auto-silence it from any calls while sleeping..

It should be possible by using the proximity sensor.

During a boring meeting some time ago I created the attached script. Feel free to use it any way you like.
It sets the profile to silence when the phone is face down on a flat surface and then back to the initial profile.
just untar it and run with python. Maybe someone can turn it into a package. It uses both proximity sensor and accelerometers.

You can silence it by turning it face down but the phone will ring if it already face down. The question is can you get the phone to auto switch to silent when it is face down so it does not ring

I can confirm it. When the N900 lays on the back on the table, you can turn off the tone for incommings with turn around 180°, so on its face.
If it is on the face, you have to turn it 360°.
It just disabled the call tone one time. the next call is normal. It's the same behaviour as tapping the mute button on the screen while incomming call.
