Well, it of cause depends on the fixed size of the easy-debian image.
Just install some of the libs and clean the cache from time to time [apt-get clean], may be you even have to get rid of some applications also [apt-get purge ...], that are not essential for you.

I have tried to get mine to crash. It doesn't.
Anyhow - as mentioned, clear your apt.
Open chroot (icon)
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get purge
sudo apt-get autoremove
Then try again with the arduino help I mentioned. If it crashed again, post in the 'ALTERNATIVES' sections. You will find more help with easy debian.

The only logical reason I can see for your reboots is if you are overclocked/undervolted.
I keep my N900 severely overclocked/undervolted, and usually it lasts for many days without reboot, but every once in a while if I run a task which is too CPU intensive it will crash.
After about 250MB of dowloads the installation starts but my N900 hard resets at around 50%.
The next time I load Synaptic I am greeted with an ominous message screen instructing me to run the "dpkg --configure -a" command to fix my dpkg cache. The command returns an error message, and I had to reinstall Easy Debian.
After 3 attempts with the same result, I figure I must be doing something wrong. Please help, it's extremely tedious constantly reinstalling the image for ED.
