Re: [Announce] [N900,N950,N9] Xbmcremote
Yes.
You seem to be using XBMC wrong. You need to tell it what kind of media you have in different directories, and then let it scan your media, extracting meta-data it can (e.g. ID3 etc.) and...

Re: I like aegis. No seriously!
Or SELlinux. Or AppArmor. Both should be a 'make config' away on Harmattan (though of course some other components would also need to be built with specific support for them).

Maybe I'm not paying attention, but you seem to mostly be basing your assessment of portability based on the fact that Skype support on the N9 doesn't have video support.
Are you implying that...

Yes, the 'normal' (X11 for desktops) Linux UI for Skype is in Qt.
But, have you ever seen that UI on Maemo? Guess not ...
On Maemo, Skype support is in:
-telepathy
-address book
-accounts

My 6-year old Golf 5 TDI doesn't. I would rather have a phone with FMTX than buy a new car (which I don't plan on doing for the next 2 years), or buy a different system for the car *just* for aux in....

Re: N9 [Shipping]: It's finally here [for some]!
There is a reason. Marketing.
In South Africa, most cell towers are backhauled by 155Mbps ATM. One network has all their towers backhauled by 600Mbps metro-ethernet. Most networks advertise...

Re: N9 [Shipping]: It's finally here [for some]!
Not just contract, but network infrastructure. In South Africa, 42Mbps towers are all over, but AFAIK the highest speedtest.net download rate on any of these was still under 7.2Mbps.
Unless...

No, CDMA is used in other countries as well (China, India, Nigeria). However, many non-US CDMA carriers use, or are required to use, RUIM cards (SIM-equivalent for CDMA), but the US carriers don't...

Ah, ZA variants show up (also weren't in MyNokiaBlog list), including operator-specific variants for Vodacom and MTN. But, all 16GB versions.
I think Nokia has missed something here, they could...

Re: N9 [Shipping]: It's finally here [for some]!
In South Africa, 21Mbps is already "old", the supposed "leading" networks provide 42Mbps, the operators who are trying to get more market share with lower prices are at 21Mbps.
However, in many...

Re: N9 [Shipping]: It's finally here [for some]!
Cannibalisation of WP7 sales by N9 is better than losing those sales to a competitor.
Cannibilisation should only be a problem for a monopoly / volume sales leader.
Maybe Nokia hasn't figured...

Is it worse than Gargale, Fremantle, Harmattan etc. (which are equivalents)?
Most likely the marketing name will be something we know already (Maemo, Meego, S40).
Previous references to Meltemi...

Re: Should I install CSSU?
I think the idea is that the cssu-enabler should ultimately be moved to extras, and at that point it would be a release for all users.
The question is what the timeframe for 'ultimately' is.
I...
