Re: Official specs of Jolla phone surface

This pissing match over the specs is all beside the point, because what's really important is how the OS and apps perform on those specs, which really no one here really knows. The problem comparing...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

I've been reading this thread for a couple of days, and while I have a lot of love for my N900 and the OS running it, one of my concerns with this project is whether the software will be able to keep...

Re: [Announce][Backport] Tweetian for N900 - Twitter client for Maemo

I had to do it a couple of times with the previous version, partially because it would crash and loading it up it wouldn't use the same PIN code.

My own personal issue is that I can't figure out...

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

As far as I know, no hardware has been announced. If you were talking about what they were running on, I think they were Nokia N9s.

Whoever is running the camera should beat the crap out of that guy.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

Course, you are assuming that Jussa is the problem, and not a corporation where the priorities weren't where they should have been. Nokia's direction and resources dedicated to Maemo and Meego...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Um, the Nexus One (which was the first Android dev phone) didn't come out until 2010, a year after the first Android phone, the G1.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

It depends on how you define "open". Does the community have a say in the direction of Android? No. Can the community contribute to core Android functionality? No. Can you roll your own...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

And you need to look beyond just what Jolla is doing. For a project like Mer to be successful, they are going to need some corporate buy-in by someone at some point. If Jolla succeeds at what they...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

specc,

I doubt you are ever going to find the device you are looking for in the smartphone market. Fact is, to get carrier buy-in, you are going to need to be closed to a certain extent. It is...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

I'm guessing that the reason for it is because carriers are going to require it. Fact is, many want to have the freedom to modify phones to meet their requirements and lock out the average user from...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Something with my experience with the N900 is that if you want this OS to be functional as the phone, the phone app needs to be able to respond to human input quickly. At times, because something in...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

More like Nokia has no skin in the game. Jolla isn't likely to be a threat to them. If they thought MeeGo was that good, they wouldn't have cut the people loose in the first place.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

As others have said, I doubt it. That being said, Nokia was far from the only investor that was interested in MeeGo, and there are certainly many companies who don't necessarily want everything...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Except that Mer has meaning for even fewer people. Unless you come here and read artices on a regular basis, you probably have no clue what Mer is.

Meanwhile, MeeGo does have name recognition in...

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Good to see this. I hope they aren't the only company who picks up the standard after Nokia's implosion, since we probably need more than one to increase the odds of having a device like the N900 or...

Re: People who do not use cssu, why? I dont care if you use it or not! First post updated

Well, I do care that updates don't break applications that are out there, since it is difficult to revert if things go wrong. I do agree that the rather poor support for promotions makes it...

Re: Tizen?

You don't know what you are talking about with VS. Everything is built on top of the Windows API. As for Delphi, that is also built on the Windows API.

Except that we aren't talking about a...

Re: Tizen?

Bad example. Yes, Visual Studio has different languages, but ultimately it is all based on a common SDK. Non-standard SDKs on Windows (Qt, GTK+, tkinter) are second class citizens. People don't...

Re: Tizen?

Hey, if you want Linux to continue to be a second-class citizen, go ahead and promote multiple frameworks that basically do the same thing.

The dream of FOSS for a mobile OS is in ruins now. This just goes to prove that anything on this scale is just not possible on a community...

Re: [Council] Council_Update-July_2011

Just because they are staying on servers paid by Nokia doesn't mean that the council isn't making plans for life without Nokia.

Also, as Jaffa says, there needs to be a sustainable plan for such a...

Re: Another proof Elop is a trojan horse

The problem is is that it took too long for all of that to come together. Personally, I blame it on Symbian ruling the roost for too long and not being flexible to change. By the time they realized...
