A .so file is a compiled bit of C/C++ code which forms a library. There is no way to realistically read it and it is unlikely to contain the background image.

There is no reason not to as 16GB is still an SDHC card which the N810 will support. The only possible issue is you may need to use something other that the FAT32 filesystem, not sure what size it...
