As far as I know, OpenStreetMap doesn't provide any aerial photographs of Earth. But Mæp can use several tile sources, as shown on the screenshot, so you can alternate OSM view with Virtual Earth...

Yes you are right. I should do the same with the email utility which keeps updating as it takes a lot of bandwith and battery power which is not needed. Same with the widgets that have live updates...
