Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

That's a GREAT idea! It would be a great resource to new owners and I'd bet there are a few gems that even seasoned users have missed!

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

Glad I could help!

By the way, CAUTION ON THE SANDISK 8GB MicroSD cards! A lot of users have had trouble with them with the stock miniSD adapters that come with. I think some of them used...

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

That depends. I'll go a bit deeper on the GPS subject.

The Nokia N810 has an internal GPS. Mine is a POS, YMMV. However, at least it can use my phone's GPS using BlueTooth and ExtGPS program on my...

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

If you are buying an n810 you have to go with microSD. But they follow similar ideas (being mostly produced by Sandisk and class speeds). You can use SD sized cards but then you have to buy the...

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

You are buying a very portable device that does a multitude of things, Although I would say "Brutal" is a huge exaggeration, you must understand there are some limitations to the capabilities of the...

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

Most SD cards are from Sandisk anyway, they're just rebranded. They all have classes (the highest being 6 which means it's the fastest). For media, class 6 isn't necessary. But if your planning on...

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

I'd caution against buying the N810 at this point. Especially if you're making comparisons against an iPod touch. The UI experience is brutal and slow.

Many of the people here are also offering...

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

I agree. In fact, the stock UI that comes with MPlayer is light and works very well.

I would *like* to like Canola, but it has some things that prevent me from using it.

1) It's heavy and...

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

About the Canola and Youtube - open /home/user/.atabake/config and edit the last row which says something like
vo = xv
to
vo = omapfb

This should get it running as fast as in mYTube, but be...

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

I agree. The defaults Nokia gives you are terrible (and Nokia rarely updates or supports them..as made evident by SSU updates). Had Nokia actually kept updating things then it wouldn't be as bad as...

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

miniSD tends to be expensive.
microSD with an adapter is the way to go. (Can also be used on other devices.)
Beware: some brands are problematic. I have a 4GB Kingston microSD and it works well.

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

The out of the box experience for the N810 is not that great, which is...

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

Canola's video player being slow is due to their way of implementation of mplayer. But if you use another program that uses mplayer or mplayer itself, it works just fine.

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

The n810 does many things adequately. It's greatest strength is it's flexibility, openness and connectivity. This is also it's biggest weakness, because it does not do one thing particularly well....

Re: A few question on N810 before buying one

The iPod touch will have better video smoothness since it's pushing 1/2 the pixels w/200MHz more processor. The web browser isn't bad either. The n810 may be overkill for what you're purchasing this...
