Steps I've tried

1) Remove battery.
2) Plug USB cable.
3) Insert Battery (while holding U or wihtout, same result).
Outcome
1) Nokia logo shows up...

The country and language selections are there, they're just not displayed correctly. Best to file a bug report using the project's bug tracker, or mentioning it on the project forum in case they miss...

That protocol is included in pidgin 2.6.4, which is the version currently in extras-devel. Creating a new mxit account using it was impossible for me so I don't know if the rest of it works.
