1) Each time it Sends/Recieves it downloads any new messages. If you only want to see new messages (ie new to the server, not to the device) then just go ahead and make sure you have Leave Messages...

If you clear the password out of the settings then it should prompt you each time. If you are using Pop3 then once retrieved to the handset it should only retrieve new ones from now on.

mplayer is the real media player, but it comes without a GUI (Graphical User Interface), so if you want to use it, you have to use XTerm and command it (STOP, PLAY, FF, REW) through keyboard key....
