Get "kmplayer". Its a front end for mplayer, which is basicly the only good player out there.
I'd install it by:
1. open xterminal.
2. type "sudo gainroot" (make sure gainroot is installed first)...

What you are missing is that these are the repos already on the device. He has no need to configure the repo himself. They used to work for him now they do not. Something has changed somewhere along...
