I wonder does the white n9 suffer from paint chip or is it only the black n9?

They are not oil spills or stuff like that.. the polycarbonate's finish really is wearing off. Also, I think the case is scratching the front edges of the phone every time you take it off or try to put it on.. because the case is so tight. There are permanent scratches on the phone now. My N8 is with me for 2 years and it still doesn't have a single scratch on its freakin' strong body. (and I dropped it many times on the floor in front of iFags to win challenges saying they can't do the same with their phones )

Gonna keep it in my case the whole time.. damn, I really wanted to show it off around without the case.

Thinking of buying the glossy white housing and replacing it.. but too expensive.
guess ill be buying a case for my phone asap then. i just bought a black one its definitely a grease magnet and i dont even really have greasy hands.

im also thinking about buying a white housing kit, they have them for about $40 on ebay now, thats not too bad considering buying a white n9 is much more expensive

I also have a Malaysian (China made) N9, 7-8 months old. The PC body seems fine, but the USB/SIM covers have ever so slight chipping. I played around with it, Im certain they are made of steel and painted over. Never noticed until bumping in this thread. Seems like a legit problem. Yay.

Well, Nokia is going 6 feet under any time soon, so its not really gonna change anything anyway.

Looking forward to the Android-Ubuntu quad core combo Ubuntu is amazing. When that happens, goodbye Nokia. You were awesome right until you made a pact with the devil.

The upper part of the Sim and the USB cover is also made from plastic.

I'm quite worried about this happening to mine now! the usb cover is looking very greasy, the top and bottom have greasy scratch type marks where the case has rubbed off the matt finish and the back of the phone looks patchy with a line where its been pushed up against the case. it looks like the moulding of the case where it's raised has made a line!

I really think Nokia should replace the cases of affected phones! this should be covered under warranty! annoyingly I live in the UK so won't have much leg to stand on!

I may just buy a white housing kit and fit that!

I really think the best way to keep your N9 (black, cyan, pink matt versions) in the best possible visual condition is to simply carry it without any sort of case or cover...just try to avoid contact with keys and sharp objects and donīt place it on anything oily or greasy...
Iīve been carrying my black N9 without any case or cover for the last month and it definitely looks alright...not as before, when everytime I took off the silicone cover I had to clean and wipe the phone as it looked pretty bad...

Unless ubuntu is on the actual phone, would not care for this. As a former Android user before my n900, the system is still very flawed, even though ICS is much better than the previous crap versions. Any mobile OS that needs so much power to not be laggy is not optimized.

The durability of the paint on this phone is awful. It seems to be covering a black plastic shell underneath.

Here's where it is chipping on my N9:

I think the simple act of pushing the USB door down (fingernail impact) causes this damage.
Anyone know what can be done to fix something like this? I'm thinking of using a touch-up paint pen for cars...

I'M NOT ALONE! so yes, I have the same problem. I'm thinking of buying the white cover now to replace it.
