I am a die hard supporter of penguinbait and his contribution to the tablets far outwiegh that of the others. But i think a separate forum will scatter the information which is not really ideal. I would like the idea if a topic like " how to crack wayfinder" is deleted on tmo. lets wait and see if that happens and if that happens we are all out of here.
so penguinbait please reconsider.

I appreciate all the great input. I am asking the community if they want something. If they do, I have offered my donation of hosting and my domain.

Everyone keeps saying do it yourself. I don't want to do it myself, I want to be part of a community. I do not want to run a forum and create themes. So I am asking if anyone else want to , lets do it.

Its not about colors
its not about themes
its not about layout
its not about some attitudes
its not about control

ITS ABOUT ALL THOSE THINGS COMBINED, making this a less fun place to be.

On top of all that, I think it could be usefull. If users go to the hack site, they should expect they could get some hacked software that may make you reflash your tablet. If they come here, they would have software more free of bugs. Thus new users are going to be less confused.

The point is, if you don't want to join don't. Although if enough people do, then we will move forward.

I do hope we can reach a compromise here, it would be a real shame to fragment the community.

And for the record, forums which require some special password or the like to access (like the Pandora development stuff as a recent example) are really really annoying .

Anyway Penguinbait I really hope you don't feel you have to leave this forum for whatever reasons and I hope this can be worked out.

I this were a poll, I'd vote No. Sulking away in a corner isn't going to solve anything. Making the transition from ItT to Talk work the way we want it to is a better solution. This isn't a corporate takeover, fer crissakes, it's a communication problem around a change of forum pages styling... There are well-meaning people on either side willing to listen and act. We can make this work, no need to fork the community, such as it is, on issues of link and background colours...

Confused again...

There are many of us who are actively working to better this community -- many duties/responsibilities, all on a voluntary basis. Some of these things we do within "groups" (using the term loosely, as sometimes it might only be two of us) and some of them we do alone. This is all in support of the greater community (I could link you to several definitions about community development and/or intentional community, but I won't).

Community's don't thrive on community members who make requests for other members to act on. They thrive on community members who work at bettering the community themselves.

Sometimes, we don't always know how to act on something we need changed. In this case, partnering with someone who does makes sense.

Sometimes our requests aren't heard -- or we think they aren't heard. This is frustrating (clearly). In some cases, patience is a virtue. In others, there are two ways to proceed: (1) again, find someone who you can partner with; (2) learn how to do it yourself.

Any community member is free to join into the communal process of self-sustainability or leave. (It sounds harsh, but it's true.) What community members should never assume is that they can dictate an outcome. (I'm speaking generally here, so please don't anyone take this personally -- it's just a fact of community living.)

Poll results might seem like a valid way to request changes -- and, maybe they really are. They are definitely good proof for changes that you make yourself.

As for asking "us" to make changes rather than "you" (whomever those terms refer to)... That's not how I live in community. Pointing to poll results? Cool, people want change -- and I will stand behind that change... Whenever it is made.

Tim

Well I just want to say I don't agree with posts like how to crack wayfinder, I personally would like to see them gone what would software companys thing if they come here and think well why would I write software for the tablet if they are just going to crack it. I paid my $130 and I'm happy for it. Sure Wayfinder sucks but I got it legit atleast.

Ah... Now that's a horse of a different color...
and it doesn't have to be fragmenting.

In fact, if everyone stays civil it would actually grow the community as both of the sites could refer questions and users to a more appropriate place.

Users would win, maemo.org would win, and Nokia would win because people would find more uses for the device, more people would be exposed to the greater community, and ultimately more devices would be sold...

I think Nash would be proud.

Added: However, at this time the total number of participants would be limited and pro'ly not worth the effort... so my advice to maintain and grow the sticky that was offered to you on this site, may be the best course to take until the numbers increase.

ok i want to stay on topic and not deviate from the topic, but if you want to buy it then by all means do it, and you can ignore those posts. why bother about them?

i am not going to reply on that topic coz that is off topic here.

The problem is that even if some hackers/developers moved their discussions over to another forum, other hackers/developers would continue posting here. I can't see how that can be avoided, and then we have fragmentation.

For example, I would like to follow whatever forum where the Mer discussions / development takes place. But I follow other development too, and what if that's on the other forum?

In any case, even if _all_ development discussions moved to a new forum I would still want to follow _this_ forum, which means that I would have to add another forum to my daily list anyway. And that's a problem. I have enough already with those I follow for my current (and future) gadgets. I can't really do more than I do already or I won't have time to work for a living.

If everything you said is accurate, I'm in favor of discouraging companies like these from coming here.
