Yep, adding a comment is really the minimum for the context information.
For mozilla we have an entity name, the english string and each functionnality has it's own file.
For example, for the findbar:
File name : findbar.dtd

Entity name: highlight.label
English text: Highlight all
Translation: Surligner tout

Entity name: highlight.tooltiptext
English text: Highlight all occurrences of the phrase
Translation: Surligner toutes les occurrences de la phrase

The .label or .tooltip, .title give also information about the context.

European Portuguese translator and loc tester here if needed : Goncaloa

Interestingly enough there is no pt_PT in any branch. This is for Maemo right ?

Well yes, but I chose that because I could see the app, not from context... It is worth noting that "Surligné" is in fact "Highlighted", an adjective that is consistent with "Bold", "Italic", "Big", "Small". "Highlight" is either a noun or a verb, so someone who has only the .po to work on will likely get it wrong.

I've looked at the French localization, witch is very good.
Of course it's good, it's me done it :-)

You need more context than the .po file give you.
Quite. I predicted this would happen in the main Conboy thread when we got started, and actually got bitten once :

Well, it´s about testing transifex.net and gather feedback about the tool and the process. A nice side effect is, that while doing this Conboy (which is a maemo application) gets translated into many languages

At some point it´s planned that all maemo related translations are managed through transifex.

I think (hope) the German translations is ok, because I did it myself and I´m German as well
Once more maemo projects move to transifex I´m sure there will be a need for many more translators. Thanks for your offer and hopefully you´ll help out in the future
