Yes maybe if mms would be way cheapers (5-10 times!!) then i would use it. but currently it is just a milking cow.

And is i said i dont know 1 person that uses mms.. not one..
Are they all out of sync??

On the other hand, it costs Granny nothing to recieve an MMS pic of the grandchildren. And should she ever get clever enough to want to send us a shot of herself living it up at the tea dance, it will come cheaply out of her pay-as-you-go credit without any problem.

Damn, now I miss my Granny.
I get Your point Kathy, but... I couldn't imagine using this phone without a data plan...

The first thing I did when my N900 was on it's way was to change phone company... Found one (in Denmark) which charges me 200 dkr (9-10Ł)/month for 1GB...

Give her a call on Your GeekOPhone...

And yet, I could send 200 of them and not incur a charge. Different plans exist.

Actually, I have to agree here. SMS/MMS as a whole is all overcharged.

And I don't have a single person sending me e-mails with pictures taken on their cellphone. Time to either meet people halfway and drop the egocentric stances or at least be willing to admit that users are different.

Adding MMS would mean nothing to you. That's fine. You wouldn't use it. But there are more than your group that surrounds you that are considered users.

Heck, NTT Docomo's i-Mode (and other services) are partly based around being able to send photos to other phones easily. And it's a huge pull in Japan. Are they out of sync because they don't use e-mail for it?

No. They are just a different kind of user. Not all users are like you. Or like me. At least I can admit it. Can you?

My mum / dad don't have email accounts let alone dataplans for their mobile phones.

I can send them MMS and they see the photo I took 1 minute ago. FOR FREE.
It's like saying we shouldn't have normal voice calls as we should all have data plans and make Skype or VOIP calls instead.
MMS is the most basic / simple / cheap (even in Australia) way of sending pics to family and friends via mobile to a mobile.

You will find that most non-geeks and non-IT guys all use MMS. (my family, friends etc)

Fact. My mom thinks MMS are the greatest thing since sliced bread... I'm kind of glad I can't get them on my N900, I used to get like 5 a day from her, haha.

i searched the the vodafone website. i cant find any plan for me that would send mms cheaper the 0.50 cent per message.
Here we only have plans/bundles for pretty much 3 things:
voice, sms and internet.

thats why i even for sms i use the internet like voipbuster (or any other betamax provider) and now we have WebTexter application that integrates more and more with the N900 so we can easily (and cheaply) send them!

wait i didnt start that "out of sync"...
I started today with saying.. "ahh now i get it.. its the states that are wanting and complaining about mms.." because around me i havent heard even 1.
And when i said that somebody told me that i was out of sync?

I just said 1 thing. that i dont get why people are not complaining more about another missing feature that are on other phones for a long long time and thats voice dialing.. thats even dangerous for loads of people NOT to have... (not to mentioned that using your phone in your hand in your car is even forbidden here and i think it most countries at least in Europa)

Also i agree with another comment over here.. if you really dont have an good internet plan on your phone.. why buy the n900...
Or are you really always in the neighborhood of WIFI stations.. I know in the states those are a bit more wide spread then over here.. So yeah that could be an option.
for me its 10 euro's for pretty much unlimited (not really but they never complained yet) 3.5G internet per month thats the same as sending 20 mms..

But it seems that for a some people in outer countries (i like to know the Europeans that do send a lot of mms) mms is important. But for me and i think anybody over here in holland it isnt of that great concern, i guess nokia based it self on that. and the fact that people now share pictures not only through email but through a lot of other channels which the N900 really shines, i guess they found that much more important to have.

I'm not against MMS arriving on the N900 eventually, I just don't consider it the #1 priority which is the tone of the article linked in the first post.

Someone else stated that MMS was on par (1-to-1) with SMS, yet when you consider that in 2008, worldwide, 1.3billion MMS messages were sent compared with 4.1 TRILLION SMS messages (ie. 1 MMS sent for every ~3100 SMS, or put another way MMS equates to about 0.03% of SMS traffic) it's obvious that MMS is a LOT less popular than some people are trying to make out.

I will admit that MMS serves a purpose for some people/families/groups, but they're a relatively small minority of users (based on the traffic numbers) and I would rather Nokia target their seemingly limited Maemo development resources elsewhere before getting around to adding MMS.

Let's face it, there are a TON of bugs raised in b.m.o which relate to non-working or semi-working functionality that is more "basic" than MMS.

Although when MMS does come, I'm sure the boggers will find something else about which to kick Nokia/Maemo/N9x0 etc.

You call 1.3 billion MMS messages minor?

I've received about 150 MMS messages with photos last year from my family and friends.
I would have received zero if MMS capability did not exist on their phones or mine.
btw, I don't believe enabling MMS on the N900 uses ALL of Nokia's resources to stop them doing anything else.

oh. I do understand where you are coming from still. I also would love a more feature packed media player, full portrait gui support at OS level and smoother video recoding to name a few. (More so than just MMS....)
