that asides, I don't think the phone will charge the battery unless the OS is booted.. I think it is deceptive.. and flashing (or doing anything with flasher-3.5) becomes more and more unreliable the lower the battery..

I'm lucky, gf has a 5800 so I always .have a backup.. but so far, I've not needed to flash
Then they should have provided a desktop charger and extra battery. Just Freakin' Crazy!

Bugslife, what I didn't understand is where did you have a prompt, you're not supposed to see a prompt, maybe you mean the vista UAC and maybe that's causing your problems. Maybe yous should turn it off. After that reboot and try again, there shouldn't be any flashing cmd.

Or, run as administrator for the cmd prompt...

not really prompt(ed) what I mean is "it asked me to allow or cancel" the program I intend to run (the usual vista way of asking before proceeeding).

I probably need to charge the battery (before another attempt) since everytime I press the "u" key to insert the usb I now get blank screen.

I hope the desktop charger I just bought (from ca) arrive soon .

That's what I meant, you should disable that or run it as administrator (both links above you).

bugslife, any reason you are using the command line manual update process and not the Nokia Software Updater application?

Installation stalled for hours when i used the Nokia Software Updater that's why I used the flasher to recover my phone. I'm waiting for the desktop charger I bought to charge the battery and try reflashing. Since monday's a holiday guess have to wait a couple of days for the charger to arrive in the mail.

I hope I can go back to the firmware 44. I don't want to use the the 51. Since it's a failed firmware update hoping I can go back to 44.

Not normally, but you said you left it trying to finish for several hours, so that might have drained it.

Also, the battery meter isn't completely accurate so it might not have been as full as it looked.

Depending on which parts of PR1.1 succeeded, you may find you can't use the older firmware. Specifically, if the phone/3G firmware part updated, then the rest of PR1.1 must be used with it. But I don't see any harm in trying older firmware first, only that it might not work.
