True. But the Executive can act while the legislature talks. I work for an executive agency that was good at stopping stuff from happening under Bush and is good at making stuff happen under Obama. Almost all that major direction comes from the President and his appointees. I'll keep my money on the FCC.

Now if a couple of major carriers jump on board the health plan and their executives start making it rain over at the DNC, all bets are off.

The biggest argument against an unlocked phone is that there are not enough places that carry Nokia phones. I'd have to - well, past tense since they're closing or have closed the stores - travel to Chicago or NYC, some 1800+ miles each way just for a phone?

Fine, Nokia doesn't wanna subsidize. Nokia doesn't want to make agreements with retailers for their higher N-series or such. Nokia doesn't sell via the retail avenues here in the US. They don't advertise here either.

And people are getting upset about being ignored in the US!?

Oh... and nuknuk... Big Daddy Don Garlits beats your european technoligy [sic] anyday

lets not start on the journalism....always the wrong facts, skepticism and the "if it isnt american it cant be good" egotistical attitude....
(even watching coverage on the haiti disaster and it wound me up the constant calling of haiti's capital "port of prince"....its "port oh prance"(pron.) do you think we can call "ar-ken-saw"..."ar-kan- zuz"?)
my logic is this: (try to see the relevance) its "soccer" in america yet THE REST OF THE WORLD knows it as football...enough said...
i personally think that nokia are right to ignore america and their "get it now at $99 + a 2yr subscribtion" attitude...why fight a pyrric battle in america? american mindset isnt going to change anytime soon..and nokia dominates the rest of the world...
i know i will come under fire for this from the american communty here......i hope they dont "misunderestimate" the relevance of what im saying....
Wow did I do something to you or did America do something to you? This is becoming political and is off topic look at the title of the thread. Politics are against the rules. The USA is not just Texas, NY, or CA. And you think AMericans are close minded.

These "journalists" are unfairly biased against Nokia though. There's no denying that.

"journalists" are pathetic...

Who watched the news yesterday night? They where talking about how much monay Apple lost because of the jailbroken iPhone....Isn't that ridiculous? They don't say a s**t about all the application that you can have unlocked for Windows (cracks etc etc)...

Any News channel have a MAC....you think they pay for that? I don't think so... Is corruption and globalization...

For sure Apple is smarter then nokia on that...is free advertising...

Yeesh, just sortin' through the topics discussed.

-Journalists: The amount off ink a product receives is directly proportional to the amount of revenue received from the advertisement of that product. Simple azat.

-Cars: I am hard pressed to come up with any modern automobile produced within the past 5 years that can be accurately identified as a product of one particular country... Buick's made in China, Volkswagens made in Brazil?

-Lucas Electrics: Are you referring to Lord Lucas, Prince of Darkness or the famous three position Lucas switch - Dim, Flicker and Off?

-FCC, Politics, free market, yada yada yada: The dirty little secret regarding cell phones in the US is the amount of unchecked, new revenue that taxes have generated for local, state, and federal governments. For the past 15 years if a budget couldn't be balanced the simple fix was to assess a new tax on cell phone use. The only thing that seems to be slowing this down is their ability to dream up new names for these taxes. Politicians do not want to kill the goose that lays this golden egg. I believe this is also ******ing the development and adoption of 3G VOIP in the US.
Data only SIMS are not subject to these "cellular communication" taxes. H'mmm.

-Drag racing: You haven't lived until you've gone through the traps @ 154 MPH in under 10 seconds... on a freakin' motorcycle.

-Nokia doesn't understand the free market in the US: What Nokia pro'ly doesn't understand is why we call it a dang free market in the first place. The fix is in. By design, it is the farthest thing from what most would call a "Free Market".

25 years ago no one had a monthly cell phone bill. Now everybody does, even your kids do. The cell phone and services market was the first truly new market that all those "B" School MBA's we churned out in the 70's and 80's could practice their "cradle to the grave" consumerism theories on... And the greed shows.

BTW all: Thanks for keeping this thread by OrangeBox going...
He is apparently a lonely boy and this threads level of interaction has reduced somewhat his tendency to pepper our boards with obnoxious, one line threads designed to provoke a negative response. I realize we can't do this every night so we might have to all chip in and get him one of those blow up dolls or something. You know, just to keep him busy.
