/home/user # apt-get install unrar

The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
python-support python-numeric python2.5 python-minimal
python pymaemo-optify python-central python2.5-minimal
python-gtk2 python-cairo python-gobject
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
The following NEW packages will be installed:
unrar
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 3 not upgraded.
Need to get 91,9kB of archives.
After this operation, 217kB of additional disk space will be used.
Get:1 http://repository.maemo.org fremantle/free unrar 1:3.5.4-1 [91,9kB]
Fetched 91,9kB in 0s (255kB/s)
Selecting previously deselected package unrar.
(Reading database ... 23531 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking unrar (from .../unrar_1%3a3.5.4-1_armel.deb) ...
Setting up unrar (1:3.5.4-1) ...
/home/user #

Yes.. but you aren't going to find a menu item for it.. it's command line only.

Yes, it should be working now. Don't forget to exit out of root mode before unpacking the archive, and disable the -testing and -devel repositories unless you're prepared to accept the risks of using them.

can anyone help me unrar a file i have on mass memory, none of the other info applies to me cos i dont use xterm, way too technical for me that! the command line app mentioned earlier is not in the repos anymore anyway, i installed the unzip via filemanager app instead but that dont work, im really conserned bout the lack of being able to do this using a simple app that is already available for most other phones

There's no other way to do it!

First you need to install unara:

sudo gainroot
apt-get install unrar

then cd to the directory you want

unrar e *name of file*.rar
