There was a brainstorm entry about making this process open and I remember It got lots of votes. Why not doing anything about it? I think Anarae is right about his question, if N900 is for above average user, let them participate and everyone will be more happy, and maybe it can help to speed up testing process.

Sure, open testing would be great and I'm looking forward to that with MeeGo. But consider: who's going to ignore Ari Jaaksi when he reports bugs?

Yeah, surely all the 10 people(97% of which are old Linux users) who actually bought an N900 would be in SO much trouble if the Release Candidate version was to have some bugs in it.
I mean, Microsoft lets people test RC-software(oh sorry they're evil and not open, can't mention here)! But of course Nokia and Maemo is the right and open way where community matters, no question about it.

You guys are looking at this all wrong.
Sure, open testing would be great and I'm looking forward to that with MeeGo. But consider: who's going to ignore Ari Jaaksi when he reports bugs?
