It's so long ago that I set up my account so I can't verify if your steps are correct, unfortunately. I just wanted to say that if you had used the backup/restore function to make a backup before you upgraded then the upgrade would have asked if you wanted the backup restored, which would have preserved your email settings. If you get it working again, remember to backup before upgrading to OS2008..

I thought about backing up "while" being updated... I did not want to cancel the process once it began.

I am not a gmail user so I can't vouch for the particular gmail settings.

However, more information would help:

1) What is not working (sending, receiving or both)?
2) How are you connected to the interenet (bluetooth tethered phone, public wireless, private wireless)?

This post proved very helpful to me when I had some trouble setting up my gmail email account after re-flashing. It might also prompt some deja vu .

1) Both Sending and Receiving not working. I had written down my previous setting (as shown on my post) that worked fine until the new OS upgrade.

2) I am connected to home router. Netgear. Again, email had been working fine at home and away upuntil now.

Thanks... (it's funny that I went through exact same thing when I first got my N770 last year. I eventually figured it out, but it took weeks)

I cannot believe the hundreds of you could not help me on this. After spending millions of hours reading and researching, I figured it out myself. For future readers, here is how.

Follow the set up shown on the first post of this string. Then when setting up POP and SMTP, write "POP.GoogleMail" instead of "POP.Gmail" I actually found this from somewhere on this site.

Now my email is working great, and I am happy!
