Try doing it the harder (but not hard) way. Get openSSH, and then use ssh root@localhost.
Otherwise, you could check your installable applications list for 'becomeroot' <--where I personally got it.

the sides of the screen, especially the lefr side seem to be raised...like the plastic/cover of the screen on the left...
